International news are covered through many filters in the U.S. media. The Philippines is among a few countries that the U.S. cover because of a long and complicated relationship between the two countries, date back to the 1898 Spanish-American War. Since 2016, the U.S. news media cover the Filipino president, Rodrigo Duterte, and the American president, Donald J. Trump, under almost the same light. This research paper explores the ways that the U.S. media portrays president Duterte by dissecting how stories were written via feature as well as hard news pieces.

Charice Castro Smith's play "El Huracán" was directed by Laurie Woolery at the Yale Repertory Theater in October, 2018. The story is set in two different time period; the first act takes place in Florida during hurricane Andrew in 1922, and the second one is in Florida's aftermath of an imagined hurricane Penelope in 2019. The hurricanes took apart and then brought back together a Cuban American family, where an "unforgivable act" plays a turning point than tie and untie the knot that contain generations of the family.

Quinnipiac University has been trying to recruit and retain a more diverse student body, but retention is difficult when the full-time faculty body is not diverse itself. Although QU staff say they have been trying to create a more diverse community, the campus still lacks in diversity in both the student body and the faculty/staff. This piece investigates in the lack of diversity at Quinnipiac University in comparison to other schools of the same size in Connecticut, as well as what is being done to improve it.

Had me chosen to be the first Quinnipiac recipient of the Connecticut Poetry Circuit Award. 2017-18. Won Quinnipiac Donald Hall Poetry third prize. Published by Quinnipiac literary journal Montage. 04.17. |
Modeled after Ocean Vuong's poem "Notebook Fragments," the poem follows the form, picking out lines of my life written in private. As I went through my notebook and found the things I have written down, the thoughts I had, for myself and none other, I saw my own wounds reopening in clearer sights. Here, the poem rearranges those wounds I have only opened for myself; it rediscover several occasions of hurt and love in my life so as through its new lines, I could speak again, this time, for someone else other than me to hear.

Won Quinnipiac Wilder Fiction first prize. This is your story. Here is your perspective. You are a kid in a seemingly normal family: your sister goes to college now, your father commutes to work, your mother works, too, but at least she comes home. Your friends are from another galaxy; sometimes, they are wizards, superheroes, and even medieval knights and princesses. Your solace is on your bedroom floor.
